Homemade Dog Treats – Just four ingredients!

Homemade Dog Treats

This time of year the house is almost always filled with treats of some kind or another – tins of butter cookies from work, leftover cake from a birthday, crumbles of yet another fudge attempt that didn’t pan out. And on top of this, we start gearing up for Christmas with sugar cookies, biscotti, spiced nuts, and a random lemon meringue pie.

As full as our houses are with treats, we still feel the need to generate more goodies and give them to friends, take them to work, and leave at the dentist office – knowing their homes are likely in the same state of sugar overload.

I understand; there is just something in the air this time of year, maybe the Christmas music, that compels us to bake and bake and bake.

So… why not bake these homemade dog treats?

These are incredibly easy to make, with only four ingredients. Even better, they are normal ingredients that you probably already have at home. Honestly that is what drew me to Chungah’s Recipe. Check out her other doggy recipes, she has a whole collection of them.

The four ingredients?

Coconut oil, peanut butter, banana, and rolled oats.

Mash them all up and knead them a bit, adding more oats if it is too sticky. Then roll them out and cut out whatever shape you desire.

Bake them at 350 degrees F for about 15 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown and the treats are firm. I baked these on stoneware and they turned out beautifully.

And yes, that is a Pampered Chef spatula as well. Seems as though we went to a lot of home parties back in the day.

I was very proud of all my little puppy stars, until I had the thought that Trixie might not even like them. I tried one, just in case. They are quite edible, though I think some sugar and salt might be needed for them to really appeal to human tastes.

Anyway Trixie likes them, so I don’t have to eat them.

She sits on the back of the couch like a cat. I think she may actually be convinced she is a cat (everyone else her size is).

Crumbs from homemade dog treats

I turned my back to vacuum later; those crumbs were demolished. Naughty cat dog.
