First quarter goals 2020

Doesn’t it seem like we go from January to April in about two days? I can’t believe how fast these last three months have gone by. Believe it or not, I did manage to accomplish a few things.

Pre-pregnancy weight

I’ve lost a bit more of the baby weight, but I’m mostly focused on enjoying my little one and keeping her fed. I’m also working on healthy habits, like taking a walk after work each day and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. What I’m not doing? Counting calories.

Read 25 books

If you count Little Golden Books and Dr. Seuss books, I’m well over my goal for the year. But as far as adult-level reading, I’ve managed to finish the following:

Into the Wilderness (Brene Brown)

The Confidence Code (Katty Kay and Claire Shipman)

I am Malala (Malala Yousafzai)

Daring Greatly (Brene Brown)

They have all been great reads, and I definitely recommend them. I use the Libby app to listen to books for free.

Debt

Our goal of dropping debt by $18,000 this year means we need to throw $4,500 each quarter at those balances. So far this year we put $1,500 toward the car and $2,800 toward student loans. That puts us just $200 behind schedule, which should be easy to make up this quarter.

Savings

We managed to tuck away $1,400 dollars in savings so far this quarter. It wasn’t as much as I wanted to save, but anything is better than nothing. I’d rather put a measly $25 in savings than decide it’s not worth even trying.

Year to date I have contributed just over $1,200 to retirement, which is matched by my employer to be about $2,400 contributed. I am lucky to work somewhere with a very generous matching rate.

New roof on house

The current world events have put a hold on this venture. At least we have time to decide if we want to do it ourselves or pay someone, and if we want to go with shingles or a metal roof.

Clean up the basement and garage

We’ve made some headway in the basement and the garage, but there is still a lot of work to do. I can’t even tell you what some of that stuff is, and I hate that feeling. We have at least gotten rid of some trash and recycling, so that is progress.

How are you coming along on your 2020 goals? Has COVID-19 changed many of your plans for this year?
